Hi! My name is Delaney,
I have been in the restaurant business my whole life. Born in Aspen, Colorado and raised in Savannah, Georgia; I understand the wants and needs of the local community. My father is a local successful restauranteur who owns Huey’s on the River and Vic’s on theRiver. He has spent many years teaching me the values, therefore, I have learned the practice which create a successful business.
With a background in art, I love to create unique desserts that are just as beautiful as they are delicious. I began my love of art when I was just a child. Once I completed high school, I decided to go to Savannah College of Art and Design. Sometime after my father asked me to work for him and to help him run his restaurant. I took this job and I learned valuable lessons in business management which only can be understood when a person is actually running a business. Soon after that, I met Minette Rushing when my mother, Dianna, was taking classes from her at her bakery, although I loved to bake, I had never decorated a cake before. Quickly, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life, so I started to work for Minette. I learned so many different techniques and skills that have stayed with me throughout my life. It was exactly what I needed to kickstart my career. It has been over ten years since I left CustomCakes, and I owe everything to Minette. She is not only an amazing cake designer, she is a spectacular mentor.
After that I continued taking cake classes all over the country, constantly learning everything I can so that I can be one of the best! In a nutshell, I truly enjoy the entire process of creating rare works of delicious art. After nine years of baking on my own and many classes from a wide variety of cake geniuses, I have had the opportunity to develop my own style. I continually take classes to stay up to date with the latest techniques all over the country. I have also taken classes from the French Pastry School of Chicago and have over thirty class credits under my belt.
About four years ago I opened Savannah’s Hall of Cakes bakery, 20 miles outside of the beautiful historic Savannah, Georgia. I have been constantly working on recipes of our cakes and desserts. My goal is to take control in the design aspect of your cake, keeping what you envision your dream cake to be. I also do the baking, decorating, and delivering of your cake! I’ve always had the support of my family. My mother, Dianna, has a gift for making the most beautiful pressed sugar flowers. With those, we decorate my cakes and we do it together. She has been supportive throughout all my journey to opening a shop and it was not an easy one. When I have decided to follow my dream and open my Hall of Cakes, I have been missing the initial investment. My family were my first investors and now, when I look back on it, it was not very professional of me to accept their help. It gave me a sense of support but it also deprived me of a professional outlook on the whole idea. So, when being financed by my family had proven not to be a good idea, I have remembered the blog post that first gave me the courage to form the idea of my very own bakery. After taking a more professional approach I started treating business funds in a different way than my personal finances. Next time I needed the money, I took out a business loan and this decision has proven itself to be the right one. Thanks to that, I feel like a confident professional.
My favorite part of designing and baking cakes is to hear from the client, that they not only loved how the cake looked, but thought it was the best tasting cake they had ever eaten. I truly believe in doing whatever it takes to make you happy.
That is why at Savannah’s Hall of Cakes, I use southern- style family service and professional experience to bake the treats you want, to make any event truly unforgettable. We truly are Savannah’s Luxury wedding cake destination!
“We arranged with Delaney from Savannahs Hall of Cakes to make our daughter’s wedding cake, all via email. It is scary making a decision like this without tasting or meeting the person but Delaney was awesome. The cake was perfect and they were easy to work with. We highly recommend them!” Vicki
